It's A Gift

…some thoughts about gifts and giving and about life in general

Another Year of Organic Gardening

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

I have been doing my best for many years to raise a few veggies, herbs, and flowers following organic principles. I believe that food produced in this fashion is not only healthier for the people who eat it, but that the whole process is much better for the environment and the other creatures with which we share it. Since the price of organic fertilizers tends to be pretty high, I’ve mostly been amending the soil with home-made compost. For the past two years I have also been experimenting with a no-till method using cardboard covered with shredded leaves to both keep down the weeds and to add to the soil as they break down.
