It's A Gift

…some thoughts about gifts and giving and about life in general

Here’s the First Re-posted Recipe

As I mentioned before, I’m planning to re-post the recipes that were on my prior blog.

This one was sent to me by my step-daughter Kirsti who lives in Devon. I haven’t managed to make them yet, but they sure sound good!

Raspberry Buns (makes 12) Traditional British recipe

225g/8oz self-raising flower
1 tsp baking powder
75g/3oz butter
75g/3oz caster sugar*
1 large egg (lightly beaten)
milk
extra caster sugar for dusting buns
raspberry jam

Preheat oven to 180 degree C/350 degree F/ gas mark 4

Sift flour & baking powder into bowl. Rub** in butter til looks like small breadcrumbs. Stir in the 3oz sugar.

Add the egg and just enough milk to form a soft dough. Divide the dough into 12 and roll into balls.

on a lightly floured surface, flatten each ball slightly and place half a teaspoon of rasberry jam in the centre.

Dampen the edges with a little milk and close the dough over the jam. Turn the buns over and place on a

greased baking sheet. Brush the buns with a little milk and sprinkle with caster sugar. Bake in oven for

15 – 20minutes. Cool on a wire rack, and serve when cold, or slightly warm.

DON’T eat straight from the oven, no matter how gorgeous the smell, the jam centres will be very hot and will burn!!

*Caster or castor sugar is a super-fine granulated sugar sold in British supermarkets. If you don’t have any, just put

some regular granulated sugar in your blender or food processor for a couple minutes. (My mother-in-law used to do

this as she didn’t bake often enough any more to keep caster sugar on hand.)

**We would normally say “cut in butter” in this country and would likely use a multi-wire tool or two knives to accomplish it.
The older British cookbooks instructed people to blend the shortening in with their fingers — thus “rub”. I’m not sure
whether or not this has changed in the newer cookbooks as the last time I was there I noticed that a lot of American
accessories were showing up in the stores. When I first visited, the kitchen departments mostly sold kitchen scales for
measuring ingredients, but on the last visit I saw that our cup and teaspoon/Tablespoon measures were being sold right
along with them.

  1. Excellent website. I built mine and that i was looking for some ideas and your website gave me some. May i ask you whether you developed the website by youself?

  2. I like this page. Thanks ! and carry on the good work.

  3. As I mentioned to someone else who commented on another post — I can’t take any credit for the appearance of this site. It is a standard template that anyone using WordPress.Org can choose for their site.

If you’re interested in seeing any of the websites that I did build, please check out https://www.better-gifts-and-giftbaskets.com
    https://www.silverandstone.com and http://www.itshobbytime.com

  4. I’m still learning from you, as I’m improving myself. I definitely enjoy reading everything that is posted on your blog.Keep the tips coming. I loved it!

  5. Okay, I approved this comment, even though it really didn’t seem too appropriate for the post to which it refers. I checked out the link and think that it might actually be of use to my visitors (unlike a lot of the garbage that others have tried to post here!)

  6. The title of this post – Traditional British recipe | It's A Gift – intriqued me, so I came by to check it out. Glad I did. FYI – I also bookmarked this page – http://its-a-gift.info/?p=16 – on Digg.com so other people can find it too.

  7. Thanks. My attitude towards the cruises you are advertising is somewhat mixed. I can see how they would appeal to a lot of people, but am appalled by the ecological harm many of them cause.

  8. I can tell that you are not using a standard WP theme here. Which one is it.

  9. I think I answered this before, but it’s SoftGreen 1.2

  10. You can’t tell a book by looking at its cover

  11. Very enigmatic — but I approved it anyway after checking out your site. Enjoyed your video about the Portobello market as I visited there for the first and last time in 1999.

  12. I discovered your web-site just lately through a recommendation and had a look at some of your pages. I like what you are writing about and I hope you carry on the good work. If you are interested in discussing some content or exchange links do not hesitate to get in touch with me.

  13. Interesante post! Muchas gracias.

  14. good stuff but can you tell me what this is all about? sorry i’m a bit new to the internet

  15. Just had to allow this comment as it gave me a good laugh. Apparently we have here a “social media expert” who is “a bit new to the internet”. Really?
I guess you don’t cook much either if you need me to explain what a recipe is.

  16. I really like your wp theme, exactly where did you down load it from?

  17. I just looked through the templates available on WordPress until I found one I thought I could live with. Sorry, can’t tell you how many pages of templates I went through before finding this one. I’m afraid that I just don’t remember.

  18. Keep working ,impressive job!

  19. Thanks. One bit of advice — you might want to write at least one post on your own blog before you start leaving comments on other sites to get a link!

  20. Does your website have a contact page? I’m having a tough time locating it but, I’d like to send you an e-mail. I’ve got some ideas for your blog you might be interested in hearing. Either way, great site and I look forward to seeing it grow over time.

  21. I don’t have a contact page on this blog, but you don’t need to look very far to see my email address, do you?

  22. Howdy, i read your blog often and that i own a similar one and i was just wondering if you happen to get a number of spam feedback? If that’s the case how do you stop it, any plugin or something you can advise? I get so much lately it is driving me mad so any assistance could be very a lot appreciated. Anyway, in my language, there should not a lot good source like this.

  23. Akismet is the plugin you want.

  24. With havin so much content do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright infringement? My blog has a lot of unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it looks like a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my agreement. Do you know any solutions to help protect against content from being stolen? I’d really appreciate it.

  25. I’m probably wasting my time answering this, but if it’s a genuine question, I’d suggest using http://www.copyscape.com/

  26. Hiya! This is the second time visiting now and I just wanted to say I truley fancy reading through your site. I’ve decided to bookmark it at stumbleupon.com with your title: Traditional British recipe | It's A Gift and your URL: http://its-a-gift.info/?p=16. I hope this is fine with you, I’m trying to give your excellent blog a bit more coverage. Be back shortly.

  27. What I love about blogs is that they spark an idea in my brain. When that happens, I feel as I need to comment with the hope it may be interesting to some people. Because there are lots of blogs and forums with many points of view, they question your comprehension. It is at these moments when you have valuable insignt other people might not have had, together with the blogger him/herself. I find myself coming back to to your writings only because you have several very good insights and also you have been at this a very long time, that is very inspiring and tells me you know your stuff. Keep triggering imagination in others!

  28. What I find funny about your comment is that it was supposedly written in response to a recipe! I’m not sure what sort of thoughts it would trigger. I’d expect it might be more likely to trigger a craving for sweets.

  29. I figure with the amount of comments here, you have a very active blog!

  30. Please let me know if you’re looking for a content writer for your site. You have some great posts and I believe I would be a good asset. Thanks!

  31. Thanks for the offer, but the plan so far is for me to continue doing my own writing.

  32. Hey I like your blog !

  33. Thank you.

  34. I like the helpful info you provide in your articles. I will bookmark your blog and check again here regularly. I am quite sure I’ll learn lots of new stuff right here! Good luck for the next!

  35. Hi, uncovered your internet site by accident while roaming across the web this afternoon, and glad that i did! I do like the page structure and colorings. I really like the information along with the site on the whole. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Definitely is one website I am going to be bookmarking to return to.See you soon.

  36. Hey there, You have done an excellent job. I’ll definitely digg it and personally recommend to my friends. I am sure they’ll be benefited from this web site. xrumer

  37. Hi, i think that i saw you visited my weblog so i came to “return the favor”.I’m attempting to find things to enhance my website!I suppose its ok to use a few of your ideas!!

  38. Wow, incredible blog layout! How long have you been blogging for? you made blogging look easy. The overall look of your web site is fantastic, as well as the content!

  39. I started blogging two or three years ago, but kept managing to destroy the site one way or another.

  40. You should register a facebook fan page to go with the site.

  41. Thanks for the idea, but I have enough trouble trying to come up with stuff to write here and on the two Facebook pages that I put up already!

  42. I’m going to bookmark this blogg on Mixx to obtain more clicks for you.

  43. Nice post. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up!

  44. Sweet blog! I found it while surfing around on Yahoo News. Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Thank you

  45. Sorry, can’t help you there. I don’t know anything at all about Yahoo News and, despite having read and heard a lot about sending out press releases to tout my business, have not done that either. For the most part, I just don’t believe that “business as usual” is all that newsworthy!

  46. you have a great blog here! would you like to make some invite posts on my blog?

  47. Thanks. I might be interested in providing blog entries as a guest blogger, as long as I was actually familiar with whatever topic might be desired. I am definitely not interested in creating a sort of “word stew” that sounds good but doesn’t mean anything!

  48. I like the helpful info you provide in your articles. I will bookmark your blog and check again here regularly. I’m quite sure I’ll learn lots of new stuff right here! Good luck for the next!

  49. I love your blog.. very nice colors & theme. Did you create this website yourself? Plz reply back as I’m looking to create my own blog and would like to know wheere u got this from. thanks

  50. Just take a look at my response to the comment before yours. The name of the template is SoftGreen.

  51. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare to see a nice blog like this one these days.. xrumer

  52. Thanks, but once again, this is just one of the WordPress templates that seemed to fit my design ideas.

  53. After study a number of of the blog posts on your web site now, and I truly like your manner of blogging. I bookmarked it to my bookmark website checklist and will probably be checking back soon. Pls check out my web site as nicely and let me know what you think. Please visit our full movie site http://fullmovies.cc to Download as many Movies as you want and Watch them on any Device with No restrictions! thank you .

  54. Awesome blog! Loving it! 🙂

  55. Thats excellent and very nicely written.Often I tend not to make comments on the web, however Ive to say that this site actually made me want to. Actually excellent little bit of material

  56. Hi there, You have done an excellent job. I’ll definitely digg it and personally suggest to my friends. I’m sure they will be benefited from this website.

  57. Hey there just cruisin around the net thanks for the great blog I will send some friends your way. Im into music videos myself always looking for youtube music videos.

  58. These may be some of the funniest comments I have read in a while!

  59. Hi there I just found your homepage and like it! I have to inform you how much I enjoyed reading it. Is there going to be an update? I plan to saving your site and will most defintely check for updates!

  60. If you are asking if I plan to keep blogging, the answer is “yes”. At the moment, every time I login there seem to be a couple hundred comments in the Spam queue that I need to check, so I haven’t gotten around to writing anything of late. If you are asking if I plan to post more recipes, the answer is also “yes”.

  61. Nice site, I envoy it, but it seems a little weird when under mozzila browser, have a look

  62. Hah! Nice try, but since I use Firefox as my default browser, I know it looks fine.

  63. The question is what do we now do with this information?

  64. Ummm, bake some raspberry buns?

  65. greetings, great looking blog you own, i dont know if you know about the taylor lautner workout it happens to be very good for getting leaner. plenty of data if you take a peek through google. take care and see you see soon.

  66. It truly is generally good to see someone speaking their own thoughts, and for that, a lot of of us all are actually grateful. Thanks for the insight and the read.

  67. With so much junk out there these days, when we stubmble across a quality article or website, we like to honor it by link to if. You can find your link at http://www.cnaonlinetraining.net/our-friends/

  68. Thanks for the link.

  69. Hi, it’s spam bot, please, delete this message and i never return) I promise.

  70. Okay, nice bit of reverse psychology there. You made me laugh, so here’s your back-link.

  71. Hey! Just wanted to say great site. Keep up the good work!

  72. Awsome site! shared it with my friends on myspace! You should get a “Google+ 1” share button too!

  73. This page appears to get a good ammount of visitors. How do you advertise it? It offers a nice individual twist on things. I guess having something authentic or substantial to talk about is the most important thing. I would appreciate if you could visit my site http://www.buysellonline.in and give me some tips.

  74. Which engine would you recommend to a newcomer? The newst release of BlogEngine or a different blogging platform?

  75. WordPress

  76. Cool blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog shine. Please let me know where you got your design.

  77. If you actually read the blog and comments, you would already know that this is a WordPress theme called SoftGreen.

  78. I post them, they get 1 or 2 views, and then no more. I would like my content to do more than just give me a few views…how do I get them on the search engines or something like that? Will no one ever go to my blog just because I don’t post every day?.

  79. First of all, what does this have to do with the recipe you’ve supposedly commented on? Secondly, with over 5,000 fans on Facebook, you must be the world’s worst blogger if you can’t get any response to your blog! Maybe you’d better hire a ghost writer.

  80. Hi, many of us in Australia absolutely love your site. This website is usually the most exciting thing we catch up on in the beggining of the week. Keep up the great site!

  81. You know, I’d be more inclined to give this at least a 20% probability of being a real comment if it wasn’t posted supposedly in response to a recipe.

  82. Hi I am so delighted I found your blog, I really found you by error, while I was searching on Google for something else, Anyways I am here now and would just like to say many thanks for a tremendous post and a all round interesting blog (I also love the theme/design), I don’t have time to browse it all at the minute but I have bookmarked it and also included your RSS feeds, so when I have time I will be back to read a lot more, Please do keep up the great work.

  83. Hello, Neat post. There is an issue along with your website in web explorer, would check this… IE nonetheless is the market leader and a big section of other folks will pass over your great writing because of this problem.

  84. Checked it — no problem with IE on my computer.

  85. I’m really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it is rare to see a great blog like this one today..

  86. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve answered this question. It is a WordPress theme and I haven’t modified it yet. Truth to tell, I don’t like to mess with the coding of WordPress sites as I usually manage to make them crash that way.

  87. Nice color choice on the blog. It is really easy on my eyes and I have bad eyes too so that’s a really big compliment lol

  88. Thanks. I tend to go for greens and aqua tones myself.

  89. Thanks much! Subscribed via rss.

  90. I saw the title of your blog post – Traditional British recipe | It's A Gift – while I was browsing on the internet a few minutes ago. Can if I put a link back to http://its-a-gift.info/?p=16 on my website?

  91. Yes, thanks — we all love our back-links!

  92. its-a-gift.info rss feed bookmarked !
    get free ipad 2

  93. The real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money.

  94. Hey there, You have done an excellent job. I will certainly digg it and in my view suggest to my friends. I am confident they’ll be benefited from this web site.

  95. After study a few of the blog posts on your website now, and I truly like your way of blogging. I bookmarked it to my bookmark website list and will be checking back soon. Pls check out my web site as well and let me know what you think.

  96. I did take a look at your website — interesting concept!

  97. I came to your site last week and I have been checking it out on a regular basis. You have a lots of good informative stuff on the site and i also love the particular style of your website as well. Keep up the good work!

  98. Sweet blog! I found it while browsing on Yahoo News. Do you have any suggestions on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Many thanks

  99. Thanks. I’m afraid that I have no idea about Yahoo News — and doubt that this is a real question anyway!

  100. Great post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

  101. Hello, I’m new to blogging and websites in general and was curious about how you got the “www” included in your domain name? I see your domain name, “http://its-a-gift.info/?p=16” has the www and my domain looks like, “http://mydomain.com”. Do you know exactly how I can alter this? I’m using WordPress. Thanks

  102. Hi,
Unfortunately, I don’t know what to tell you. If your blog has been around for awhile, I wouldn’t try to change the URL as Google might then think you have duplicate content. I had thought that the URL for my blog had the www prefix, but the last time I checked the links on my other websites, I found that it does not. My web host installed the WordPress software for me, so apparently they set it up without the www.

  103. p.s Do you have a facebook page?

  104. Yes, i have two business pages on Facebook:

    http://www.facebook.com/Greenbriargiftbaskets

    http://www.facebook.com/Hobbytime

  105. Nice blog!! keep up the nice style, it’s nice to see writer’s like you these days

  106. Just started reading your blog a few days ago; and I’m loving your newest series. Looking forward to the next installments.

  107. This is a excellent web site, might you be interested in doing an interview regarding just how you developed it? If so e-mail me!

  108. I’m afraid that it would be an extremely short interview as the answer is, “I looked for a template that I didn’t hate and then just started writing.”

  109. g’day,, one quick question for you, is your theme custom built? The reason I ask I’m looking for a similar one to yours but I cant find one, any chance you could please tell me where you found yours? thanks!, Chrissy

  110. Hi. The template is in the WordPress template list. I did have to go through a lot of them before I found this one,

  111. Sorry for excellent undesirable english language. Probably as a result of Netherland, and i do not own a good verbal, however , i may begin to explain this assestment. To be sure in your put up, i trust my goal is to understand a lot more same. Can i subscripe for your life posts? Thank you plenty.

  112. I could be wrong, of course, but this comment at least sounds as though it were written by a person rather than a robot, so I’ve approved it. If there’s really someone out there reading this reply — yes, all you have to do is click on the posts rss and sign up.

  113. I’m wondering now if we can talk about your sites statistics – search volume, etc, I’m trying to sites I can buy adspace through – let me know if we can talk about pricing and whatnot. Cheers mate you’re doing a great job though.

  114. I’m hoping that this blog will help people find my other websites and I’d rather not weaken that function by carrying ads for others. Sorry.

  115. I’m very pleased to have found this website. Definitely enjoyed reading and I have bookmarked to check out new stuff that you post.

  116. Do you have a spam issue on this blog; I also am a blogger, and I was curious about your situation; we have created some nice methods and we are looking to trade strategies with others, why not shoot me an e-mail if interested.

  117. Of course I have a spam issue — it’s a Do-follow blog! I just have to make sure to log in at least every other day to go through the spam queue or I am faced with the task of checking through hundreds of spam comments.

  118. hi website owner, your web page’s template is terrific and i like it. Your blog posts are attractive. Make sure you keep up the good work. Greets!!

  119. Nice information! I am actually trying to start my own website and your blog has given me some good ideas. Thank you for the inspiration!

  120. Do you know this website is suggested by a number of other blogs? Nice stuff. Thank you very much!

  121. I’ve checked a few links that people have told me about — don’t know how long they’ll last, but it’s nice to get them.

  122. Hi I think your blog is good I found it through Google i’ll come back from times to times to check the updates.

  123. Wow, superb blog layout! How long have you been blogging for? you make blogging look easy. The overall look of your site is wonderful, let alone the content!

  124. To tell you the truth, I’m not quite sure exactly how long I’ve been blogging — perhaps three years or so. I managed to destroy two former blogs, once because I messed around with the perma-links and once because there was a problem upgrading WordPress.

  125. Your blog has been saved to my bookmarks and I have also sent out a tweet to my friends – look forward to more posts in the future!

  126. Hello! I just would like to give a huge thumbs up for the great info you have here on this post. I will be coming back to your blog for more soon.

  127. I just love to read new topics from you blog :~”-

  128. some times its a pain in the ass to read what blog owners wrote but this website is real user genial ! .

  129. I assume you mean “user friendly”. I thought perhaps your link would lead to a site in another language, but since it actually is in English, and the item you’re selling is interesting, I’ve allowed the link.

  130. Hi there. I noticed your blog title, “Traditional British recipe | It's A Gift” doesn’t really reflect the content of your web page. When writing your site title, do you think it’s best to write it for Web optimization or for your visitors? This is something I’ve been struggling with mainly because I want great rankings but at the same time I want the best quality for my visitors.

  131. No, it doesn’t reflect the content of the page as it is the title of a post, not the title of the blog. If you don’t know the difference, how do you expect anyone to take you seriously when you offer your SEO services?

  132. Pretty good post. I just came across your site and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts. Any way I’ll be coming back and I hope you post again soon.

  133. Howdy! Someone in my Myspace group shared this site with us so I came to check it out. I’m definitely loving the information. I’m bookmarking and will be tweeting this to my followers! Excellent blog and fantastic design.

  134. Greetings! How are things going? It’s good to know that you are still around this website. How did you pass the latest Google update? Just checked your rankings and it seems like you are doing a good job 🙂 Hope you will maintain the quality, just don’t forget about your friends 😉 Bye-Bye :*

  135. Took a look at your site — interesting read. I hope the link brings you more traffic.

  136. Have you tried twitterfeed on your blog i think it would be cool :`*:-

  137. No, I haven’t — primarily because I don’t use Twitter.

  138. Real nice layout and great written content , absolutely nothing else we want : D.

  139. Okay, this is a typical spambot kind of comment; however, since your site happens to be about one of the very few TV shows I actually watch, I’ve decided to give you the back-link.
